You may have heard by now the PSAC-UPCE and Canada Post have reached a tentative agreement. We do not know the details of this agreement, other than it is a four year agreement expiring in August 2024. Canada Post talks a lot about improving collaboration. Why won’t it start by negotiating with CUPW?

Over the last number of weeks, allies have set up picket lines at postal facilities across the country to protest Trudeau’s back-to-work legislation and Canada Post’s refusal to negotiate fair contracts for CUPW members. We appreciate the support of our allies. It is clear that postal workers are not alone. The entire labour movement is standing behind us and is prepared to fight to defend the right to free collective bargaining.

This is the busiest time of the year in terms of workload, as parcel and Admail volumes are at their highest in the weeks leading up to the holidays. While your employer alleges it takes your health and safety seriously, you are the one who can best protect yourself from harm. You have the right to refuse to perform dangerous work! At times, we are faced with having to decide between serving our customers well and protecting our physical and mental well-being and safety.

After 37 days of rotating strikes, unconstitutional legislation has removed the right to strike for postal workers. Legal strike action ends at noon today, but the struggle is not over. You cannot legislate labour peace. We are now moving to a different phase of the struggle. We are asking members to return to their regularly scheduled shifts as of 12:00 pm ET and await further instructions.

Direct action to stop overburdening begins at midnight - For Immediate Release - Ottawa - Effective November 1st at 12:01 am, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers is calling a national overtime ban for both of its major bargaining units at Canada Post. Postal workers, no matter what their job at Canada Post, will not work more than an eight-hour day and not more than a 40-hour week.

This week’s release of CPC’s 2017 Social Responsibility Report confirms that there is a health and safety emergency at Canada Post! The report reveals that the most serious injuries (full-day lost time injuries) increased 36% last year. In fact the 2017 lost time injury rate was 46% greater than 2015. In the report the Corporation states “We are not happy with the results. Clearly more work must be done”.

In 2009, when Canada Post began introducing Postal Transformation, management proclaimed that the new work methods would result in a dramatic reduction in injuries. For many years CPC management congratulated itself for injury reduction and rewarded themselves with financial bonuses while hiding the fact that injuries to letter carriers actually increased.

More than 1/3 of workers in Canada have or will experience domestic violence in their lifetime, and for more than half of those affected, the violence has followed them to work. We need to remove the stigma that domestic violence is a private matter.
Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition
Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Today, September 15, postal workers across the country are escalating their strike action against Canada Post.
As of 12:01 am local time, postal workers will neither process nor deliver unaddressed flyers (Neighbourhood Mail). As of the same time, we have lifted our national overtime ban.

Over a month ago, postal workers soundly rejected Canada Post’s offers in a government-forced vote. The Corporation’s plan to bypass the Union and impose rollbacks on us failed.
With the Corporation’s offers rejected by the membership, the only way to settle this dispute is at the bargaining table and the Employer changing its positions.

The Federal mediators advised us that Canada Post has cancelled today’s (August 25) planned meeting. The Corporation says it needs more time to review our latest global offers. We are expecting to receive more questions from Canada Post about our offers through the Federal mediators.
