The Pay Equity Act (the Act) requires federally regulated employers with an average of at least 10 employees to establish and maintain compensation practices that provide for pay equity. Canada Post is therefore required to have a pay equity plan and to establish one or more pay equity committees.

In December, Arbitrator Flynn ruled on CUPW's application over whether Personal Contact Items (PCI) that RSMCs deliver on the weekend season are pensionable and included in the pay equity agreement. Arbitrator Flynn ruled on our historic pay equity win for RSMCs, and she retains jurisdiction on some matters of application and implementation of the award.

The new CUPW film Justice and Dignity for All, which details the 40-year struggle of RSMCs to gain working rights and pay, premiered virtually on Sunday, October 25th. Despite COVID restrictions relegating us to a virtual premiere, the event was well attended by members across the country. The premiere included not only the screening of the 34-minute film, but also a panel discussion with some of the sisters that took part in the documentary. The bilingual premiere was emceed by our National President, Sister Jan Simpson.

Canada Post Finally Provides a Timeline for Employees on Workers Compensation Board (WCB) for the Retroactive Period - It has been 11 months since the “phase 3” retro payment for pay equity was paid out by CPC. Following this payment, CPC was to work on getting payment to RSMCs who were off work on Injury on Duty (IOD) and receiving payment from provincial WCB. This impacts over 1,000 RSMCs. The Union has been pushing CPC to provide us with information about this payment since the award was rendered. CPC has finally provided the Union with an estimated timeline.

**AMENDED** Phase three of RSMC retro payment will be on the October 17th pay. This payment will cover the retro payments for the Rest Period Allowance (RPA), Personal Contact Items (PCI) and admail (Neighbourhood Mail).

We are coming up to the final phase of the wage adjustment for Pay Equity. As of now, we are on course for the payment to be released sometime in October. Phase 3 payment will include payments for Rest Period Allowance, PCIs and Admail. RSMCs will also see adjustments on their Schedule A for activity values for PCIs and Lock Changes.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Yesterday, August 20, CUPW’s Negotiating Committees returned to the bargaining table to present comprehensive global offers for both the RSMC and Urban bargaining units. While we had planned to meet again tomorrow, Canada Post has told us today that it needs more time to review our offers.
