More evidence has been found that supports the need for Canada Post to offer a Senior Check-in service. CUPW has been calling for such a program since 2016. Recently the National Institute on Ageing released a report that backs that up.

Good news for residents of Membertou, Nova Scotia! The second Canada Post Community Hub has just opened in this community. Community Hubs have been a key demand of our Delivering Community Power campaign since 2016 and CUPW is pleased to see the Corporation adding to the Community Hub already open in High Prairie, Alberta. Many more are needed!

Recently, Canada Post has spoken out about the importance and potential benefits of expanding its financial services to the public and small businesses. CUPW welcomes this new direction because we know that service expansion is needed to maintain good jobs, and to promote increased financial inclusion and better access to services.

CUPW has just launched the new chapter in our Delivering Community Power (DeCoPo) campaign. We need to hit the ground running if we are to capitalize on the unprecedented times in which we live and make our vision a reality. As a first step, CUPW needs your help. We are looking for a coordinator for the Toronto region who will work on this important campaign from now until June 2021. This coordinator will take on a variety of tasks and organizing that will take place regionally, nationally and yes, often virtually.

Over the last five years, CUPW developed Delivering Community Power – a unique and powerful vision that is at the centre of a sustainable postal system. Other unions around the world now look to this vision for inspiration. After hearing the proposed changes and policies included in CUPW’s Delivering Community Power, Canada Post has begun to take this project seriously.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Yesterday, August 20, CUPW’s Negotiating Committees returned to the bargaining table to present comprehensive global offers for both the RSMC and Urban bargaining units. While we had planned to meet again tomorrow, Canada Post has told us today that it needs more time to review our offers.
