The RSMC and Urban Bargaining Committees have unanimously recommended that ALL members decisively reject Canada Post’s “final” offers. At the National level, the National Executive Board is unanimous in its recommendation to reject the offers. The vast majority of your elected Union representatives from across the country also agree: the Employer’s May 28 offers do not meet our needs and must be rejected.

On June 30 1981, CUPW members from sea to sea to sea went on a nationwide strike. One of the main issues in the strike was a maternity leave top up –or paid maternity leave so that women would not lose money when they took leave to have children.

The National Constitution sets the basic dues rate for Urban Operations workers at 300% of the maximum hourly rate for the lowest classification within the bargaining unit. RSMC dues have been set at 1.71% of the wage portion received by each member, to a maximum equal to the dues for Urban members. Some Locals have bylaws for a local assessment over and above the monthly basic dues.

Canada Post deducted union dues on your December 31, 2024 pay, representing the dues from pay period # 27 (December 2024). Your January 16th pay will include dues owed for pay period # 1 (January 2025). These two pay periods represent dues at the 2023 rate of $90.61.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Yesterday, August 20, CUPW’s Negotiating Committees returned to the bargaining table to present comprehensive global offers for both the RSMC and Urban bargaining units. While we had planned to meet again tomorrow, Canada Post has told us today that it needs more time to review our offers.

Unfortunately, our scheduled meetings for Friday, August 15th and Monday, August 18th, have been postponed. The Federal mediators will not be able to assist CUPW and CPC due to their current involvement in the Air Canada negotiations.

After pressing the Employer to come back to the bargaining table early last week, we received a response from Canada Post CEO Doug Ettinger on Friday evening, just hours after we posted Bulletin 128, “CUPW is Waiting for Canada Post.” In his letter, Mr. Ettinger stuck to the lines we’ve heard from Canada Post for many months now.

CUPW launched its postal banking campaign with a giant inflatable piggy bank in downtown Ottawa.
