Thursday December 21 2023
At the bargaining table this week, the Union and Employer presented starkly clashing visions for the futures of Urban Article 41 and RSMC Article 30, covering surveillance and monitoring. Currently, our collective agreements ensure Canada Post cannot use security camera footage, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), or other electronic monitoring systems to gather evidence to discipline employees. The Employer’s surveillance systems can only be used to protect the mail and corporate property against criminal acts, such as theft.

Family and Child Care Connections (FCCC) is expanding licensed home child care across the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. CUPW partnered with Family and Child Care Connections in 1996 to support the child care needs of postal workers in St. John’s, NL. In 2021, Family and Child Care Connections (FCCC) was designated the province-wide licensed family home child care agency.

Families across Canada are crying out for access to early learning and child care. The federal government’s historic child care initiative has brought down parent fees for licensed child care for children under 6. However, there are only enough licensed spaces for a fraction of those who need it. Vulnerable families and children are much more likely to fall through the large gap between supply and demand.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.
