The National Health and Safety Committee consists of one member from each Region. elected by regional caucus at the National Convention. It also includes the Regional Education and Organization Officer from each Region and the National Grievance Officer as well as the members from the union side of the Joint Union-Management Health and Safety Committee.

The Committee works on: 

  • Health and safety courses
  • The standardization of CUPW health and safety policy
  • Producing information for Locals on national health and safety policies
  • Arbitrations and grievances related to health and safety
  • Positions on health and safety issues and equipment
  • Developing twice-yearly reports on the state of health and safety
  • The National Joint Union-Management Health and Safety Committee
  • Uniforms
  • The Union’s position and policies on the environment.
