CUPW is currently seeking three CUPW members to assist with public facing campaigns and serve as Community Organizers (CO)

Starting February of 2023, anyone appointed as a CO will be tasked with collaborating with the National 3rd Vice-President, any Regional or Local office where they find themselves working, to engage community groups, allied labour unions, elected representatives, and the public at large in support campaigns of the union and build our power. This will include the Delivering Community Power campaign as well as other projects.

Similar to how the Building Worker Power (BWP) campaign operates, this position will be a month-to-month ad hoc book-off where COs will submit monthly event calendars detailing the proposed work they will be doing for the campaign during that period.

Responsibilities

• Presentations to locals and other CUPW bodies about community organizing campaigns. Training and supporting Locals to recruit CUPW members and public to volunteer to help with various campaign initiatives.
• Collaborating with the BWP Regional Organizers (ROs) to ensure they are up to date on topics related to the DCP and other community campaigns so that they can include it in their internal work 
• Outreach to other parts of the labour movement (CLC, provincial Federations, labour/Unifor councils ) to build solidarity around our campaigns
• Deepen relations with allied groups on enviro or community topics to further inform the public
• Engagement with individuals who show interest in the digital campaign via comments etc. 
• Develop relationships with media to foster supportive coverage of CUPW campaigns
• Lobby municipal, and federal politicians to support CUPW initiatives.
• Attend regular meetings with the 3rd VP, locals, regions, and other COs.
• Write reports about work completed, collect analytics about the progress of the campaign and interact with various database and other campaign digital tools.
• The successful candidate will be expected to be able to travel semi-frequently and be following travel restrictions as determined by health authorities.
• Prepare own work schedule on a monthly basis to determine how much time will be needed to be booked off from Canada Post duties.
• Other relevant duties as required.

Qualifications

• Must be available to begin January or February 2023. Depending on scheduling, the work could be full-time until May 1, 2023, at which time the position will be reviewed and possibly extended.
• Enthusiastic, self-starter who can work well on their own and with others.
• Ability to work irregular hours and away from home for extended periods of time (there will be meetings after regular work hours).
• Must be able to drive and have a valid driver’s license.
• Good speaking, writing, computer, and organizational skills.
