Statement from CUPW in solidarity with Unist’ot’en Camp and the re-occupation of Wet’suwet’en land

CUPW condemns the injunction against Unist’ot’en Camp and stands in solidarity with the Indigenous re-occupation of unceded Wet’suwet’en lands in northern British Columbia against Coastal Gaslink Pipeline. We call on the Government of British Columbia to respect Indigenous title and revoke permits for development. We call on the federal government to pull funding from the single largest private investment in Canadian history, and instead respect a nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous peoples and real action on climate change. 

CUPW is a union that is taking the lead in proposing green transition for our public services – building a future that respects the earth and the generations of people to come. That future can and must respect the rights of Indigenous peoples. We ask our comrades in the labour movement to join us in solidarity with Unist’ot’en Camp to defeat this injunction and defeat oil and gas development on Wet’suwet’en land.  Sign the pledge to support Unist’ot’en Camp, help fund the re-occupation, and together let’s show all levels of government that they cannot trample on Indigenous rights in favour of private oil and gas interests.
