Our allies are working with us across the country to put postal services front and centre. Over the past few months, they’ve put out leaflets and petitions, and even gone on a cross-country tour to put pressure on Canada Post and the government. With their help, we’ve been able to gain some of the strongest public support in years on key issues like pay equity, postal banking and pensions.

This support is critical as we move into the second phase of the public review of Canada Post. Canadians will be asked for their opinions on the future of the public post office and we want to make sure that OUR message is out there.. That means we have to join with our allies and keep the pressure on! Our next big opportunity is coming up to share our vision of the future of the post office.

On September 17, People4Posties, a coalition of community groups across the country, will be hosting a Pan-Canadian day of action in support of CUPW. We are encouraging locals and members to get involved and help make these events a big success!  Rallies, demonstrations and public engagement activities are already confirmed for Vancouver, Nanaimo, Lethbridge, Winnipeg, and Ottawa (details below). Other events will be happening in cities and towns across the country.

If there isn’t an event scheduled for your area, consider organizing one with your local. Some possible actions could be:

  • Holding a rally in support of expanded services like postal banking
  • Organizing a petition drive, or leafletting in a public location
  • Creating a spectacle to bring awareness to the public review of Canada Post

You can find suggestions and learn more about events near you at: http://people4posties.ca/postalpower/

By working together we can keep postal issues in the public eye and make connections that will help us for years to come. The future of the post office belongs to everyone!

In solidarity,

Mike Palecek

National President
