Negotiations to Resume in Early March

CUPW and Canada Post met with Commissioner Kaplan after the fourth day of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission to discuss the next steps. During this meeting, the Parties agreed to return to a parallel two-day negotiations process on March 1 and 2 to try to negotiate new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC units. Mr. Kaplan will once again serve as Mediator.

Over the last year, whether at the bargaining table, on the picket line, or at the Commission hearings, the Union has been clear: the best collective agreements are the ones reached at the bargaining table. We welcome the opportunity to negotiate collective agreements that prioritize good stable jobs for all postal workers and that help strengthen the public post office.

Constitutional Challenge Continues

CUPW is also challenging the Minister of Labour’s use of section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to force an end our legal strike in December 2024. CUPW is arguing that the Minister’s order was illegal, and in violation of our constitutional rights. The next hearings will take place on March 3 and 4. 

Industrial Inquiry Commission Continues

Although we will be doing our best to negotiate collective agreements over the weekend of March 1 and 2, the Industrial Inquiry Commission will continue. The next hearing is scheduled for March 25. Currently, the Parties have not received any details from the Commissioner about the purpose of this final hearing.
