Negotiations Update

At this point, many are wondering what is currently happening as CUPW’s 50,000 members prepare to vote nationally to give the National Executive Board a mandate to call for strike action, if necessary.

URBAN UNIT

The Union has presented all of your demands to Canada Post. In the past few weeks, we have also been providing the employer with a lot of contract language that clearly states our positions.

To date, Canada Post has not given our substantive demands any positive response that would allow us to reach a tentative agreement.

RURAL AND SUBURBAN UNIT

The picture here is basically the same as for the urban unit.  Moreover, not only have we not received any positive response to our demands at the bargaining table, but Canada Post is still trying to minimize what RSMCs are entitled to as a result of the pay equity arbitration decision.

SPEAKING WITH ONE VOICE: OUR STRENGTH

Your negotiating committee needs your support if it is to succeed in resolving the problems we have faced for too long. You will soon be able to tell Canada Post loud and clear what you think by exercising your right to vote at meetings that are scheduled between August 7 and September 9 and in your local’s activities.  Your vote is critical.
