    CUPW supports the Gig Worker Bill of Rights which calls for full employment rights and the right to form a union to collectively negotiate their wages and benefits with their employer, among other things. Anything less is unacceptable. Gig workers should define and decide what their union looks like and democratically elect their leaders – not the bosses.

    The Federal Government has passed BILL C-3, an Act to amend the Canada Labour Code. It received Royal Assent and became law on December 17, 2021. This amendment is not currently in effect and we don’t know when it will come into force.

    In December, Arbitrator Flynn ruled on CUPW's application over whether Personal Contact Items (PCI) that RSMCs deliver on the weekend season are pensionable and included in the pay equity agreement. Arbitrator Flynn ruled on our historic pay equity win for RSMCs, and she retains jurisdiction on some matters of application and implementation of the award.

    The winter holiday period has just passed and typically, people in this country contribute to a number of food drives to help people living in poverty. Some CUPW locals organize their own collection drives and give to local food banks. This is commendable and poor and homeless people require our respect and aid, especially in these times.

    This year’s Tamil Heritage Month theme is “Our histories. Our legacies. Our homelands.” This month is an opportunity to recognize the tremendous contribution of Tamil Canadians to our nation’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.

    Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

    Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

    Bar charts are calculated from September 1 to August 31 annually. Because of the strike, which took place from November 15 to December 13, 2024, there were only nine working days each in November and December. In this case, we concluded an agreement with Canada Post, similar to the one reached in 2018, to exclude those 22 days from the bar charts calculations.

    Today, February 19, the Industrial Inquiry Commission held its third day of hearings. We received an update on the number of submissions made to the Commission before the public deadline – approximately 900! The Commission hopes to have these all made available to the Parties by Friday.

    OTTAWA - Today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will continue to present its case during two days of hearings at the Industrial Inquiry Commission in Ottawa.

    On February 19 and 20, the second round of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission will be held in Ottawa. The format for these hearings will be similar to the first. Commissioner Kaplan has asked both CUPW and Canada Post to provide him with written submissions before the hearings begin.
