Retraction: Canada Post Corporation advised CUPW today (December 15, 2021) that it has revised its plans after discussions with CUPW, and will not end high-risk leave on January 22, 2022 as originally planned. Bulletin 326 (December 14, 2021) regarding high-risk leave is no longer accurate.

Since the arbitrator did not issue a cease-and-desist order (similar to an injunction) as per our application regarding Canada Post Corporation's vaccination practice, the next step is for an arbitrator to hear the merit of the case by way of priority.

All members actively at work were required to attest to vaccination status by November 26 or be placed on leave without pay. This is an update for those who did attest. Canada Post Corporation has established a national safety audit and compliance team to perform random spot-checks. You may be contacted and asked for proof of the status you attested to.

This is a follow-up from our bulletin dated November 25 announcing that our Cease and Desist application against Canada Post’s mandatory vaccination practice was denied. As per the jurisprudence, in order for a Cease and Desist to be granted, the Union must meet all of the five (5) criteria specified in clause 9.93 of the Urban collective agreement.

Arbitrator Burkett did not grant the cease and desist order against Canada Post’s vaccination practice. Due to the short timeline in the implementation of the practice, the arbitrator advised the parties of his decision, and will send his reasoning and the full decision at a later date.

CUPW’s arbitration hearing against Canada Post’s vaccination practice was held today.

    Thursday November 18 2021
CUPW has filed a cease and desist application against Canada Post’s vaccination practice which will be heard by Arbitrator Burkett on November 24, 2021. We have also filed national grievances against the practice. CUPW supports voluntary COVID-19 vaccination, and is proud that many of our members have been vaccinated. However, CUPW is concerned that the mandatory vaccination practice goes farther than required.

This bulletin is to give more details on how to attest to your vaccination status, and what to do next. While this is a Canada Post Corporation practice, not CUPW’s, we are doing our best to prepare members to make informed choices. These are the latest details as provided by CPC to CUPW on October 29, 2021.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

A week ago, CUPW members spoke loudly and rejected what Canada Post called its “best and final” offers. The goal of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers remains negotiating ratifiable collective agreements which meet postal workers’ needs, help grow the current services provided by a public post office and to better serve Canadians with new services.

Last week, postal workers decisively rejected Canada Post’s “best and final offers” in the government-forced vote. With a turnout of over 80%, nearly 70% of our members told Canada Post, “No, these offers won’t do it!” Every employer in the Federal and Provincial sector has been watching us. Rejecting these offers was a victory not only for our Union, but for the labour movement as a whole.

To all CUPW members, Thank you for showing up, for standing together, and for participating in the government forced vote. Regardless of how you voted, your participation was an act of solidarity and strength. And for those who voted to reject the final offers, your decision sent a powerful message: “We know our worth, and we deserve better”.
    Friday August 1 2025
After almost two weeks of voting, the results are now in: CUPW members in both bargaining units have spoken, and they have rejected Canada Post’s global offers.
    Tuesday July 29 2025
We’ve now entered the second and final week of the government-imposed forced vote on Canada Post’s “final” offers. As of July 28, 69 % of Urban members and 71.4 % of RSMC members have already casted their vote. Voting continues until 5 pm EST on August 1.

On March 24, 2021, the House of Commons voted to designate August 1st as Emancipation Day to commemorate the slavery abolition act of 1833, which took effect in 1834 and paved the way for the liberation of over 800,000 enslaved Black people across the “British Empire”, including parts of the Caribbean, Africa, South America and Canada.
    Friday July 25 2025
On July 23, Canada Post shared some information about its “final” offers and the vote that is currently underway with members. Information was shared via email as well as distributed in some workplaces.
    Thursday July 24 2025
Voting on Canada Post’s final offers started on Monday July 21. 55.8% of Urban members and 57.8% of RSMC members have already cast a vote. Voting continues until 5 pm EST on August 1. The deadline to request a paper copy of Canada Post’s final offers is tomorrow, July 25. There is still time to vote. It is very important for the voices of all members to be heard and to be counted. Every member's voice and vote makes a difference.

What happens if we vote no on Canada Post’s offers?

    Tuesday July 22 2025
Yesterday, July 21, after the start of the forced vote, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) informed the Union of the process it will put in place to allow members who cannot access online versions of Canada Post’s final offers to request a paper copy.

CUPW launched its postal banking campaign with a giant inflatable piggy bank in downtown Ottawa.
