Bloodied, but unbowed, CUPW members from coast to coast to coast are feeling the impact of postal transformation and Canada Post’s cuts. Perspective asked activists in every Region about their experience in the workplace. Here’s what they had to say:
Thursday December 4 2014
This year has been very difficult for us. We have been attacked by Canada Post and the Government, but we fought back. We would like to thank all the locals for their hard work, for public events, and for cavassing across the country. Everyone has been working hard; thank you!

An initial decision had established that the collective agreement, as extended by the Act to Provide for the Resumption and Continuation of Postal Services (C-6) as of February 1st, 2011, was also in effect during the strike and lockout period. OTTAWA - The union representing postal workers strongly condemns a move by the private company “You Have Mail,” accusing it of exploiting the recent Canada Post decision to end door-to-door delivery for over five million Canadian households by offering to pick up mail and deliver it to the door – for a fee, of course.

The federal government has only partially protected postal services in the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Canada took an Annex I reservation rather than a stronger Annex II reservation. For example, an Annex II reservation would have given the government the policy flexibility to reverse postal deregulation that is not working.

For Immediate Release MILTON – On the day that the Canadian Postal Service Charter opens up for review, representatives from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and other concerned groups are rallying at Minister Lisa Raitt’s office in Milton to send a strong message to the federal Conservatives that they should be talking to the public about postal service.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.
