Do you have a school-age child with special needs or know someone who does?

All children have a right to attend schools and to be fully included with the necessary program supports. To help make this happen parents need access to timely information. A new, one of a kind, resource guide, Special Education Navigation Tool is aimed at supporting parents to get the information they need, when they need it.

To use the guide simply navigate to your province or territory to find key information about services and supports your school age child is entitled to:

  • Transportation to school
  • Definition of inclusive education
  • Individual program plans and how they work
  • Suspension and expulsion processes
  • Parental rights
  • Alternatives to a school diploma
  • Transition planning
  • Other community supports and programs for school age children

It can be difficult for all postal workers to balance work and family life. It is even more demanding if you have a child with special needs. The information in the guide is designed to help save valuable time and energy finding the information they need, when they need it most.

To learn more about this new resource guide take a moment to go to the CUPW Special Needs and Moving On projects website www.specialneedsproject.ca or find the link on the CUPW website www.cupw.ca

This resource guide was funded out of the Child Care Fund negotiated by CUPW with Canada Post Corporation, Appendices L (Urban) and J (RSMC) of the collective agreements.
