In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th, 2019, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) created a poster celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike, commemorating all the women who helped Canada’s labour movement come into its own in the early 20th century, and those who continue to fight today.

February is Black History Month. Throughout this month we celebrate the heritage, traditions, achievements, and culture of people of African descent and diaspora. It’s been officially recognized by the federal government since 1995. Each year CUPW honours an individual, place or story of African heritage.

December 6, 1989, is a day that will forever remain engraved in our collective memory. At the École Polytechnique in Montréal, a man shot and killed 14 women because he was opposed to equality and to feminism. That day, twenty-nine years ago, the face of misogyny reared its ugly head in spectacular fashion. It is the single most deadly event in Canadian history.

Montreal - November 29 & 30 And December 1st, 2018 - This conference is organized by the Centre international de solidarité ouvrière (CISO) (International Centre for Worker Solidarity), a vital forum where Quebec unions come together to focus on issues of international solidarity, particularly with a view to sharing resources and exchanging alternative information. Members interested in applying to attend this conference must do so by November 20, 2018.

The longest day of the year falls on June 21, when the life-giving sun shines longest in the northern hemisphere. Historically, it is revered for the renewal of the cycles of life and the seasons. The Canadian Government has also recognized this day as National Indigenous Peoples Day “to celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of Canada's Indigenous Peoples.”

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Bar charts are calculated from September 1 to August 31 annually. Because of the strike, which took place from November 15 to December 13, 2024, there were only nine working days each in November and December. In this case, we concluded an agreement with Canada Post, similar to the one reached in 2018, to exclude those 22 days from the bar charts calculations.

Today, February 19, the Industrial Inquiry Commission held its third day of hearings. We received an update on the number of submissions made to the Commission before the public deadline – approximately 900! The Commission hopes to have these all made available to the Parties by Friday.

OTTAWA - Today, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will continue to present its case during two days of hearings at the Industrial Inquiry Commission in Ottawa.

On February 19 and 20, the second round of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission will be held in Ottawa. The format for these hearings will be similar to the first. Commissioner Kaplan has asked both CUPW and Canada Post to provide him with written submissions before the hearings begin.
