Canada Post should be moving with the times by providing high-speed access to Internet Broadband in urban, rural and remote parts of the country. Did you know our postal service actually has a mandate to expand service in light of advances in communications? They should be doing it. Other postal administrations are. For example, post offices in France, Italy and the United Kingdom already offer Broadband service.

Post offces everywhere are changing with the times. People are sending fewer letters through the mail, which has affected the revenues of post offces around the world. Some postal systems have raised prices or cut services and jobs, as Canada Post did when the Conservatives were in power. But post offces in many other countries have expanded their services and branched out into new avenues in order to make more money. It’s time for Canada Post to make full use of its presence in every community and add new revenue-generating services.

On October 5th 2016, the House of Commons declared by unanimous motion the month of January as Tamil Heritage month. The Parliament recognized the contributions that Tamil-Canadians have made to Canadian society, the richness of the Tamil language and culture, and the importance of educating and reflecting upon Tamil heritage for future generations.

Can we have a better future? Can our children and future generations have a secure and holistic future? All is possible. In Canada’s celebration of 150 years of colonialism there are some important questions missing.

First Nations, Métis and Inuit members are represented on the Aboriginal working group of CUPW’s National Human Rights Committee. Each year, the working group directs the creation of a poster for June 21, to express traditional teachings or symbolism from the animals of turtle island. This year’s poster carries the dragonfly.

Profits for last 20 of 22 years - Canada Post has reported profits every year since 1996, with the exception of 2011 and 2013.

Every February is a chance for us to reflect on the connections between Black history and our engagement with the living present. It’s not just a month to reflect, and to educate, but also a time to consider the history we are now making, and make sure we take pride in our work for a better future.

Bill C-27: Undermining Canadian Pensions (Fact Sheet)

Sunday October 2 2016
A factsheet on the elements of high quality child care. It's a fact. Research shows that high quality child care plays a positive and long-lasting role in the social and intellectual development of children, no matter what their social, cultural and economic background. Lack of access to high quality child care can cause high stress for working parents: worry about their children's well being while at work, and conflicts with employers and co-workers due to lateness or absences. Lack of high quality child care also keeps women from entering and participating fully in the paid labour force.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

The CUPW child care fund has been working with communities across Canada to create affordable, high quality non profit and public child care for nearly 30 years. From the beginning, the push for universal child care has been interwoven in the development of child care projects and the funding of research that informs and shapes policy.

April 28 is the National Day of Mourning. A day to honour and remember those who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or become ill because of their work. On this day, we reflect and reaffirm our commitment to fight for workplace health and safety.

Founded in 2011 by Paul and Raven Lacerte, the Moose Hide Campaign began as a grassroots initiative along British Columbia’s Highway of Tears—a region marked by the tragic disappearance and murder of many Indigenous women and girls. The campaign encourages men and boys, alongside all Canadians, to commit to ending gender-based violence.

The April 28 election is happening as we are engaged in a fight for the future of our post office and our jobs. Canada Post is pushing for drastic changes which could lead to job cuts and negatively impact our communities. Canada Post’s sole shareholder is the Government. Who is in government matters. We represent a big voting bloc which could have an impact on election results – particularly in tight races. We can make the future of our public post office an election issue.

Now that hearings for the Industrial Inquiry Commission are complete, we'd like to remind members of some important dates in the weeks ahead. Commissioner Kaplan’s final report to the Minister of Labour is due May 15. His report will give the Minister recommendations about how to resolve the issues in dispute in bargaining. It may also include recommendations about the structure and operations of Canada Post. We made our position clear throughout the hearings that these types of questions must only be dealt with in a fully public mandate review.

Postal workers are well aware that the planet is getting hotter. More and more, we are facing extreme events - such as an increasing number of wildfires with their toxic smoke, lethal heat domes and atmospheric rivers bringing more rain, more coastal storms and more flooding. But it’s children who are most at risk.
Monday March 24 2025
A federal election has now been called for April 28, 2025. Although the Canadian Union of Postal Workers does not endorse any party, we will be putting pressure on candidates from all parties to commit to defending our public post office and good stable jobs.

CUPW launched its postal banking campaign with a giant inflatable piggy bank in downtown Ottawa.
