The National Executive Board has appointed the Negotiation Committee members who will represent the Urban Unit during the 2021–2022 round of negotiations. The five members, which include a technical aid, will be joining Sister Lana Smidt, recently appointed Chief Negotiator for the Urban Operations bargaining unit, bringing diversity and a wealth of experience. Carl Girouard, the National Grievance Officer, in accordance with the National Constitution will act as technical consultant.

On this day a year ago, CUPW, and the labour movement as a whole, lost an activist, a mentor, a trailblazer, and a friend. Megan Whitfield was a long-time postal worker and labour activist who dedicated her life to improving the lives of working people. She was a dynamic and fearless leader who was at the forefront of many struggles, including pay equity and health and safety improvements.

CUPW at all levels, calling for immediate action

We now know that local management, as well as a small group of CUPW members were involved in the organization and participation of at least two social gatherings in postal facilities in the GTA. These gatherings have exposed serious compliance issues of the many health and safety measures in place at all facilities. The current outcomes are disastrous, have resulted in workers becoming very ill, and have contributed to further spread of this highly contagious COVID-19 virus.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Changes To Contributions To The FTQ Solidarity Fund

Each year, through Local Representatives (LR), the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) promotes the FTQ Solidarity Fund in workplaces. The LRs, who are CUPW brothers and sisters, tour workplaces, encouraging members to sign up for the FTQ Solidarity Fund and to make contributions via payroll deductions. It is an easy and responsible way to put money aside for retirement while supporting job creation at Canada Post.
