    CUPW has just launched the new chapter in our Delivering Community Power (DeCoPo) campaign. We need to hit the ground running if we are to capitalize on the unprecedented times in which we live and make our vision a reality. As a first step, CUPW needs your help. We are looking for a coordinator for the Toronto region who will work on this important campaign from now until June 2021. This coordinator will take on a variety of tasks and organizing that will take place regionally, nationally and yes, often virtually.

    Pink Shirt Day is Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in Canada. It began in Nova Scotia in 2007 when a male student wearing a pink shirt was bullied. Two students intervened but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying. They mobilized the other students and two weeks later, most of the student body wore pink to school, standing in solidarity with the bullied student and all the other victims of bullying. Their message was clear: anyone can bully, anyone can be victimized by bullying, but together we can stop it.

    It gives me great pleasure to announce the decision of the National Executive Board with respect to the selection of the Chief Negotiators for the 2021-2022 collective bargaining. Nancy Beauchamp will be Chief Negotiator for the CUPW RSMC bargaining unit and Lana Smidt will be Chief Negotiator for the Urban bargaining unit.

    The National Executive Board has declared a vacancy in the position of National Union Representative – Education Department – English language. As per the provisions of section 3.35 of the National Constitution, the position will be filled at the special national meeting of April 17, 2021. Nominations are now open for the position of National Union Representative – Education Department – English language. Only members in good standing may seek election to this position.

    Another of our private-sector bargaining units – Bee-Clean workers in St. John's, NL – has reached its first Collective Agreement (CA). The organizing efforts of the St. John's local are bearing fruit. Not only did they go out and sign the cards, but the local stayed on the case, and invested in the collective bargaining process.

    Poster: Black History Month 2021: The Work Isn’t OverSince our country officially recognized February as Black History Month in 1995, governments, organizations and individuals have used this month to honour the traditions, accomplishments, heritage and culture of Black people, as well as educate people about Black history.

    Media Release - On Friday, January 22, Canada Post sent afternoon shift workers from the Gateway East facility home to self-isolate for 14 days, based on the recommendations of Peel Public Health authority. This directive comes after positive COVID-19 cases continue to increase at the largest postal facility in the country.

    In recent days, the number of workers testing positive for COVID-19 at the Gateway East facility in Mississauga has greatly increased. Public health authorities have ordered that all shift #3 employees are to self-isolate. These employees will receive paid quarantine leave. All shift #2 employees will have to be tested for COVID-19 or self-isolate for 14 days.

    Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

    Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.
