Because of the uncertainty around government measures to confine Canadians, it is necessary to postpone the Union Education Program for now. The upcoming session was scheduled to take place in October and November 2020, then in February and March 2021.
This is certainly a disappointing turn of events for CUPW’s signature union school. However, we have considered all angles, and we are forced to delay the UEP indefinitely. First, we do not know how long restrictive measures will be in place. Secondly, we cannot speculate on where members will be at, once a semblance of regular life has resumed. Thirdly, beyond the idea of having to facilitate public transportation for a good number of UEP candidates, the crisis has superseded our ability to continue preparing the Fall edition. Lastly, once the pandemic has subsided, the UEP will need to be adjusted in light of this extraordinary global phenomenon.
We received a good number of applications for this edition of the UEP. We will keep these applications on file and active (unless you tell us otherwise), and re-open the application process again, once CUPW makes a decision on when to stage the program. For those who have already applied, there will be no requirement to apply again.
CUPW wishes to thank the members who have already applied, and remind all members in good standing, that this remains a marvelous learning opportunity for CUPW members and activists.
Thank you for your consideration at this time.
Solidarity,
