On April 12, 2017 the CUPW Bee Clean negotiating committee met with representatives from Bee Clean. The meeting’s goal was to finalize outstanding issues from the negotiations that had been suspended previously due to the unavailability of representatives on both sides of the table. After some discussion it became apparent that clarification was needed on some of the issues. As a result another meeting has been scheduled for May 3rd.

Issues remaining include:

  • Coverage of absences
  • Shift premium
  • Lead Hand classification
  • Benefit Plan
  • Family Day
  • Boot Allowance
  • Pension
  • Wages

Your negotiating committee is committed to making improvements in wages and benefits. While the minimum wage has increased twice in the province of Ontario there has been no matching increase or additional increases for the membership. As well, the company continues to use other outside cleaners to cover absences. This work should be offered to members of the bargaining unit first.

More information will be distributed after our next meeting.

In solidarity,

Tom Garbatt and Debbie Carmichael
