SOLIDARITY WITH CANADIAN POSTAL

WORKERS’ NATIONAL STRIKE

The signatories, union and workers' associations leaders in Portugal, express their solidarity with the courageous national strike that has, since November 15th, mobilized about 55 thousand of Canada Post´s workers, represented by their Union CUPW – Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

After a year of negotiations with little progress, postal workers took the decision to strike, in the face of the refusal of Canada Post’s management to negotiate concrete solutions to the workers' problems, worsening working conditions and the threat of layoffs.

Postal workers demand fair wages, safe working conditions, the right to retire with dignity and the expansion of services in the public postal service. Postal workers are proud to serve their communities and demand better working conditions to also increase the quality of the indispensable public service they provide.

In Canada, as in Portugal and around the world, neoliberal globalization aims to destroy public services and open up new business opportunities to private capital and financial speculation, attacking workers' wages and rights and promoting precariousness. To face and defeat the powerful offensive of capital, the workers can only count on their unity and determination in the struggle and on international solidarity.

Long live the justified strike of Canadian Union of Postal Workers!
