**Alert**: The Union is not serving a 72-hour notice. For many years, CUPW has consistently taken the position that the best response to falling mail volumes is to expand into new services which meet the needs of the public and add revenues for Canada Post. Our view is that CPC should expand its existing services such as parcel delivery and direct mail, as well as initiate new services such as postal banking. With the largest vehicle fleet and the most extensive network of retail facilities in the country, there is great potential for growth. Here is how the issues stand at negotiations:

The wage offer presented by Canada Post management is an insult. The vast majority of employees would receive pay increases of 0.75% per year or less. Here it is:

Under the Canada Labour Code, once the parties have obtained the legal right to strike or lockout, no action can occur unless one of the parties has provided a 72 hour notice. Since neither CUPW or CPC has provided such a notice no industrial action can occur before Thursday July 7th. Until one party serves a 72 hour notice, the rates of pay, benefits and other conditions of employment provided for in the collective agreements must be maintained. This includes full coverage of the health insurance plans and the right to grieve contract violations.

Today we presented CPC with our Global Offers for both the urban and RSMC collective agreements. As a result, we will not be servicing our 72-hour notice. Therefore, there will be no industrial action prior to July 6th.

CPC spokespeople are always talking about the deficit in the Canada Post Pension Plan. But they never mention that the plan also has a huge surplus. And while the surplus is growing, the deficit is decreasing.

The CUPW National Executive Board has decided not to file a 72-hour strike notice today. This means there will be no strike action undertaken before Tuesday, July 5th.

For Immediate Release - OTTAWA - Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra has officially rejected a letter from postal workers asking him to extend the July 2 deadline for a lockout by a period of two weeks, which could mean that the profitable company is indeed preparing to lock out its workforce in the middle of a public postal review, spoiling the process.

As the CUPW Negotiating Committee is currently working to prepare its counter proposal to the CPC global offer, the Union has decided not to file a 72-hour strike notice tonight. This means there will be no strike action undertaken before Monday, July 4th.

OTTAWA - Postal workers are asking Canada Post management for a two-week extension on the cooling-off period that would otherwise entail a termination of their contract on July 2nd. At that point, the union says Canada Post might either lock its workers out or try to force a walkout through punitive changes to their working conditions.

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. OTTAWA– Tomorrow, CUPW and Canada Post will be meeting in Ottawa for two days to resume Negotiations. CUPW is trying to negotiate new collective agreements for both Urban and Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (RSMC) bargaining units which will both benefit postal workers and strengthen our public post office - now and for future generations.

This weekend, March 1 and 2, CUPW and Canada Post negotiators will reconvene in Ottawa to resume bargaining and trying to secure new collective agreements for Urban and RSMC units. The National Constitution sets the basic dues rate for Urban Operations workers at 300% of the maximum hourly rate for the lowest classification within the bargaining unit. RSMC dues have been set at 1.71% of the wage portion received by each member, to a maximum equal to the dues for Urban members. Some Locals have bylaws for a local assessment over and above the monthly basic dues.

CUPW and Canada Post met with Commissioner Kaplan after the fourth day of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission to discuss the next steps. During this meeting, the Parties agreed to return to a parallel two-day negotiations process on March 1 and 2 to try to negotiate new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC units. Mr. Kaplan will once again serve as Mediator.

Today, February 20, the Industrial Inquiry Commission resumed for a fourth day of hearings with both CUPW and Canada Post presenting their rebuttals. The Parties were asked to provide detailed costed proposals for this month’s hearings. While CUPW presented well-thought out and researched proposals, the Corporation repeated the same old talking points without submitting documentation or costing to prove that its proposals could return Canada Post to financial sustainability. The Corporation instead proposed new language.

Bar charts are calculated from September 1 to August 31 annually. Because of the strike, which took place from November 15 to December 13, 2024, there were only nine working days each in November and December. In this case, we concluded an agreement with Canada Post, similar to the one reached in 2018, to exclude those 22 days from the bar charts calculations.

Today, February 19, the Industrial Inquiry Commission held its third day of hearings. We received an update on the number of submissions made to the Commission before the public deadline – approximately 900! The Commission hopes to have these all made available to the Parties by Friday.
