On Canada Day, we will reflect on our Indigenous members and others who have valid reasons to fee

In early June, senior Canada Post Corporation representatives approached CUPW with a proposal to extend the current collective agreements by two years and provide a 2% increase in wages. They stated that the uncertainty of the recovery from the pandemic would make our upcoming negotiations extremely difficult. The National Executive Board decided that we would not accept CPC’s proposal but would consider pursuing discussions if CPC agreed to

The members of Appendix “T” (Service Expansion, Innovation and Change Committee) are happy to announce that Canada Post has confirmed concrete plans to launch a market test for new and expanded financial services with a financial partner in the fall of this year.

The National Executive Board would like to thank and congratulate all members who participated in the pre-negotiation regional conferences held during recent weeks. In all regions the discussion and debates at both the Urban and RSMC meetings was conducted in the spirit of solidarity and mutual respect.

We are still working with Canada Post on the Article 35.08 review, as it is still not complete. While monitoring the review, it has come to our attention that some errors occurred when supervisors were inputting acting assignments as they were inputting these as promotions. This would have a negative impact for our members as it would change the members anniversary date for the annual pay increment and may wrongfully create an overpayment situation.

Recently, Canada Post has spoken out about the importance and potential benefits of expanding its financial services to the public and small businesses. CUPW welcomes this new direction because we know that service expansion is needed to maintain good jobs, and to promote increased financial inclusion and better access to services.

This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Special Needs Project. This is covered under Appendix L in our collective agreement. Appendix L was hard fought for and has helped many postal workers who have children with different abilities. Over 1800 members and their families have benefited from this. I do not believe any other union in Canada has such comprehensive benefits as we have.

June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day - Every year we encourage all members to honour this day with deference and solidarity. This year, given the recent discovery of a mass grave of 215 Indigenous children found at a former Kamloops residential school, we must also honour our revived outrage at the ongoing violence of colonialism.

June marks the beginning of Pride Season – a time of community, education, and of course, celebration. But the story of Pride is so much bigger than rainbows and parades. It’s important to remember that Pride started as a riot – a rebellion against the discrimination of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and asexual (2SLGBTQIA+) people. And this community continues to be at the forefront of the civil rights and social movements today.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

CUPW negotiators met with Canada Post, March 1 – 2, to resolve our bargaining dispute and achieve new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC units. CUPW came to the bargaining table prepared to negotiate collective agreements that will benefit postal workers and strengthen the public post office for generations to come. The Union offered meaningful proposals to help Canada Post expand into weekend parcel deliveries, while protecting full-time jobs. However, the Corporation continued to push for serious rollbacks that would gut our agreements, explode part-time and temporary work, and undermine our full-time jobs.
    Friday February 28 2025
OTTAWA– Tomorrow, CUPW and Canada Post will be meeting in Ottawa for two days to resume Negotiations. CUPW is trying to negotiate new collective agreements for both Urban and Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (RSMC) bargaining units which will both benefit postal workers and strengthen our public post office - now and for future generations.
    Friday February 28 2025
This weekend, March 1 and 2, CUPW and Canada Post negotiators will reconvene in Ottawa to resume bargaining and trying to secure new collective agreements for Urban and RSMC units. Your National Executive Board and Negotiating Committees remain steadfast in their commitment to reaching fair collective agreements.

On International Women’s Day, we honour the achievements of women while also confronting the gender inequality and misogyny that persist in our society.
    Wednesday February 26 2025
The National Constitution sets the basic dues rate for Urban Operations workers at 300% of the maximum hourly rate for the lowest classification within the bargaining unit. RSMC dues have been set at 1.71% of the wage portion received by each member, to a maximum equal to the dues for Urban members. Some Locals have bylaws for a local assessment over and above the monthly basic dues.
    Friday February 21 2025
CUPW and Canada Post met with Commissioner Kaplan after the fourth day of hearings of the Industrial Inquiry Commission to discuss the next steps. During this meeting, the Parties agreed to return to a parallel two-day negotiations process on March 1 and 2 to try to negotiate new collective agreements for the Urban and RSMC units. Mr. Kaplan will once again serve as Mediator.
    Thursday February 20 2025
Today, February 20, the Industrial Inquiry Commission resumed for a fourth day of hearings with both CUPW and Canada Post presenting their rebuttals. The Parties were asked to provide detailed costed proposals for this month’s hearings. While CUPW presented well-thought out and researched proposals, the Corporation repeated the same old talking points without submitting documentation or costing to prove that its proposals could return Canada Post to financial sustainability. The Corporation instead proposed new language.

Bar charts are calculated from September 1 to August 31 annually. Because of the strike, which took place from November 15 to December 13, 2024, there were only nine working days each in November and December. In this case, we concluded an agreement with Canada Post, similar to the one reached in 2018, to exclude those 22 days from the bar charts calculations.

CUPW launched its postal banking campaign with a giant inflatable piggy bank in downtown Ottawa.
