Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

Our Cost of Living Allowance will take effect for the fourth consecutive quarter to help members deal with inflation. Please note, the information below is subject to change should we win our National Grievance (N00-22-00005). In dispute is the date of the base month for the calculations of COLA amounts owed. Canada Post Corporation has confirmed that it will pay the COLA payments as below, calculated in accordance with their position on the base month.

CUPW is the only union in North America to have bargained a Fund to support its members with their child care needs. It all began in the early 1980s when women postal workers demanded that their Union do something about their need for child care. In response CUPW began to raise the issue with Canada Post and in 1991 bargained the CUPW Child Care Fund (Fund).

We have been notified that a security breach took place with one of their IT service providers, CompuCom. Based on their review of the exposed data, CPC believes that there is no evidence that any financial or sensitive personal information was part of the breach.

It’s been just over a month since CUPW held its 27th National Convention in Toronto where delegates spent a week debating reports, resolutions and elected their leaders for the 2023-2027 term. I’d like to once again welcome and congratulate all newly elected union representatives and thank them for their service and dedication to CUPW.

Premiums for both the Basic Life Insurance Plan and the Disability Insurance Plan will go up 10 percent. The increase applies to the whole premium – both the portion you pay and the portion the employer pays. This also applies to retirees. The new rates will take effect on July 1st, but the change in the premiums will be showing July 20 (pay period 15).

I regret to inform you that the Arbitrator rejected our national grievance N00-16-00002 in his decision of June 7, 2023. The grievance challenged the Corporation’s decision to take away from letter carriers the duties of obtaining, sorting and preparing the mail, and assign them to routers instead.
