At the bargaining table this week, the Union and Employer presented starkly clashing visions for the futures of Urban Article 41 and RSMC Article 30, covering surveillance and monitoring. Currently, our collective agreements ensure Canada Post cannot use security camera footage, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), or other electronic monitoring systems to gather evidence to discipline employees. The Employer’s surveillance systems can only be used to protect the mail and corporate property against criminal acts, such as theft.

Support Postal Banking - Download and Sign the Petition

Canada needs a postal bank. Thousands of rural towns and villages in our country do not have a bank, but many of them have a post office that could provide financial services. As well, nearly two million Canadians desperately need an alternative to payday lenders. A postal bank could be that alternative. Download and sign the petition urging the Government of Canada to instruct Canada Post to add postal banking, with a mandate for financial inclusion.

It’s been an eventful 2023 for CUPW!  We held our National Convention and elected our National Executive Board members and Union Representatives from across the country, we welcomed new private sector workers to our Union, we continued to mobilize workfloors and build worker power in preparation for bargaining, and we expanded our Family and Child Care Connections program.

Our Cost of Living Allowance will pay out once again, as it has several times during the renewal agreements, to help members deal with inflation. Please note, the information below is subject to change should we win our National Grievance (N00-22-R0005). In dispute is the date of the base month for the calculations of COLA amounts owed. Canada Post Corporation has confirmed that it will pay the COLA payments as below, calculated in accordance with their position on the base month.

CUPW launched its postal banking campaign with a giant inflatable piggy bank in downtown Ottawa.
